We read lots of books by Jan Brett. You can visit her website to learn more!
http://www.janbrett.com/index.html Last week we learned about collaboration. We learned that when we work together, take turns and listen when others talk, we are collaborating! We collaborated to make class puzzles. Here are some pictures from the fun.
Today we reviewed what happens in the beginning, middle and end of a story. We read Julius, The Baby of the World and identified the beginning, middle and end of the story. When you read books at home you can identify the beginning, middle and end of the story.
We spent time learning about our school rules. We also identified rules we have at home. Today we created our own classroom rules. Here are the rules that the first graders created.
On our very first day of first grade, we read First Day Jitters. We talked about how we were feeling on the first day. We shared our feelings with the class. You can see the results below. (We had to add an extra row for sleepy!!! Many friends were feeling tired this morning!)
We went outside to check for trash. We were shocked to find so much at our school. We identified what kind of trash it was and if it was recyclable. Most of the trash was recyclable.
Today the class voted to read inside the classroom. (instead of going outside) We made forts in the classroom and read inside our forts. Here are some pictures from the fun!
I cannot stress enough how important summer reading is for your soon to be second grader! Here is some information about a program you can use this summer.
