What's Happening in our Class?!?
The latest and greatest on first grade fun!
In first grade we do not use the regrouping method that many parents were taught when they were in school. Instead we use models of tens and ones to represent regrouping. We call this composing a ten. Here is a visual of what it looks like from our lesson today. You can help your first grader by using these models when solving problems that require regrouping at home!

Today we learned how to use the break apart strategy to solve addition problems.
1. Write the numbers in expanded form. 2. Add the ones. 3. Add the tens. 4. Add the tens and ones. The weather yesterday was so beautiful that we had to take advantage of it. Instead of reading independently inside, we went outside and read. Here are some pictures of us reading outside! |
