Today we went outside to observe the area around our school yard. We sketched the things we saw around the playground. Tomorrow we will identify the things that are living and nonliving. Here are some pictures of us hard at work!!
Today we read Julius the Baby of the World by Kevin Henkes. We worked on describing the character Lilly. We focused on what she said and did to support our thinking. We are laying the groundwork for going back into the text to find evidence!! Here is an example of what we did today.
The first graders worked together to create rules for our classroom. We had to narrow it down a little bit, but here is what they created!!
We spent last week and some of this week learning about the Bear Necessities. Today we started the process of creating our own class rules. We created lists of what everyone is supposed to do at school. Below you can see our ideas. We will take some of the ideas from the everyone section to create our rules. Check back soon to see what we come up with!!!
Yesterday we met with our Bear Cub Buddies. This year we will be paired up with Mr. Hirsch's 4th grade class. We did a "getting to know you" activity with our buddies. Make sure to ask your first grader who his/her buddy is this year.
Today we reviewed the beginning, middle and end of a story. We talked about the events that happened in the story. Many first graders wanted to share the character's feelings (because that is what we did last week!) but we focused on the events. You can practice this at home with the books you read!
We had a great first day of first grade. Make sure to read the "sweet tweet" your first grader brought home today.
Today we read First Day Jitters and identified our first day of school feelings. Below you can see the class results. PLEASE, please, PLEASE make sure to update me with changes in dismissal!! |
